I remember the clock
He liked to count down
Whether we liked it or not,
Whether we smiled or
frowned

He hung in my house
On the nursery wall
We saw him as big
He saw us as small

I remember he’d sit
On the wall watching us
He’d be very silent
And not make a fuss

We thought he was normal
But slowly, so slow
I began to uncover
This secret I know

The clock is alive
And actually quite smart
I remember he’d love
To quote poems by heart

We do love to talk
He’s now my good friend
We natter for ages
Sometimes hours on end!

But sadly, I’ve grown
I am much too old
To be in the nursery
With the clock who told

The most wonderful stories
To me and my friends
So, sadly, our friendship
Must come to an end.
